Astroparticle Physics

Prof. Rene Ong
VERITAS Data Analysis
Analysis of astrophysical data from the VERITAS gamma-ray telescope to study Galactic sources of TeV particle acceleration. Research would be mostly computer based using the common tools and methodology of astroparticle physics.

Prof. Rene Ong
GAPS Detector Component Development
Development of detector components for the GAPS balloon experiment to search for signatures of particle dark matter. Research would be mostly laboratory based and associated with scintillation counters and high-speed electronics and sampling.

Dark Matter Search
The particle astrophysics group at UCLA, led by Prof. Katsushi Arisaka and Dr. Hanguo Wang, is actively involved in several experiments to search for the Dark Matter, using liquid Xenon and Argon. We have invented a radiation-free photon detector called QUPID. An REU student is expected to participate in testing this new detector.
