Stanford Linear Accelerator beam test
The recent discovery of the highest energy cosmic rays using their radio emission offers the possibility of detectors that are millions of square kilometers. We are preparing a beam test at SLAC (Standford Linear Accelerator) where we will simulate cosmic rays showering in a magnetic field using their new electron beam and a magnet. This research position would include preparing the experiment for the run at SLAC and taking data for a 1-2 week period. This involves setting up oscilloscopes for remote operation in a radiation environment and perhaps building a magnet. Preparatory work will also involve simulations. This project is pending approval of beam time at SLAC this summer.
